Rally of the Sane Variety

It's no secret that Washington, DC is know for Rally's.  Even the most casual viewer of Forrest Gump knows that people like to symbolically gather around the reflecting pool in a show of solidarity regarding their views.

Martin Luther King did it, Anti-War Protesters did it, Glenn Beck did it and now, John Stewart is doing it.

You'd have to be living under a rock to not know that 1.) The Daily Show is tapping here this week and the President is on tonight and 2.) That the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear will be taking place on the Mall this Saturday.

The rally will take place over by 3rd Street, near the Capitol, where they hold Screen on the Green, which is oddly, more fitting for this type of rally and the people they'll likely attract.

It will last from Noon until 3:00 PM, because honestly, it's Halloween and we obviously have a big night ahead of us so the quicker the better.

Awesomely, The Daily Show is encouraging donations to be made to the Trust for the National Mall.  Yes, please give money to the Trust.  They're providing a tremendous service by attempting to fix the National Mall which is in such a depressing state it's embarrassing.  They've already raised over $100,000 from this rally.  Any little bit helps.

You can make a gift here.

Also, on that note, please be careful and respectful during this rally.  I'm sure there will be drinking but try not to be inebriated.  Also, make sure to clean up after yourselves!  This rally is clearly aimed toward a certain generation, ours.  We like to blog and talk about change but we rarely do much about it.  If we want to be taken seriously, not just politically, but as a generation we need to do more than just self promote on Facebook.  If you go to the rally, clean up the Mall when you're done.  Don't make the National Park Services job any harder than it already is.

Have fun! Be safe and respectful and enjoy yourselves.  This will probably be the only rally many of us ever feel comfortable attending so make it a memorable one!
