Medal Obsession

I’m totally Olympic Obsessed right now. There’s just something about sports, U.S.A. and Ralph Lauren that really inspires me to stay up late watching male figure skating.

I LOVE male figure skating. I loved it even more when I discovered that the fabulous and flamboyant Johnny Weir had his very own reality show on the Sundance Channel (Watch Clips HERE!). As I watched his trials and tribulations with the stomach flu, his pomegranate-obsessed Russian Coach Galina and his rivalry with the very, very attractive Evan Lysacek, I fell in love. He wear’s pink tassels on his skating costume (which has a little skirt – I LOVE skirts) and PETA is mad at him for wearing fox fur* forcing him to yank the look from the Olympics!

Well, my favorite Fashion-ice-ta is totally being awesome again. It turns out that Johnny decided that he would go ahead and shack up with his archenemies’ girlfriend, ice skater Tanith Belbin. Some reports say that Tanith and Evan are together, some call them ex-lovers, but whatever they are this addition to the on-going Evan/Johnny tiff is something really great Lifetime movies are made out of and I can’t help myself! Hopefully, someone at Lifetime will realize this and start pitching it immediately. Although, something tells me that Evan doesn’t really have much to worry about. Johnny and Tanith both refer to themselves as “divas” so it will never work out.

Anyway, tune in to NBC for the Olympics tonight at 8:00 PM to see the final, long program portion of the male figure skating competition. Evan is currently in 2nd place, a half a point behind the villainous Russian contender, Evgeni Plushenko, and Johnny is in 6th. It’s going to be fantastic! Lifetime, are you listening?

*I know in the below post I talk about supporting animals, and I totally do.  I love them.  But, I also respect a person's right to choose and as Johnny said, wearing fur is a personal choice.

Fun, Furry and Fabulous

As an equal opportunity lover of animals and all things fashionable, the Washington Humane Societies Fashion for Paws ranks high on my list of must attend events.

The annual runway show features some of DC’s bold and beautiful with DC’s furriest. This year the event will be held at Embassy of Italy on April 10th. The fundraising goal is $350,000 and can be achieved by donating to one of the many models who volunteer to strut their stuff in front of friends, colleagues and the media. One of my good friends, Susie Aguirre, is one of those brave souls and I encourage you to visit her fundraising page and make a donation by clicking here.

Fundraising wouldn’t raise money if it weren’t “fun” so please come out tonight and support Susanna, along with other models Krista Johnson and Kate Manders. The event will be held at George at 10:00 PM. $5 at the door get’s you $7 RBV’s and a chance to support the very worthy Washington Human Society.

P.S. Just because it's funny and we're talking about dogs, please check out Hipster Puppies!  Love puppies, sort of loathe the hipster look - it's the biggest internal debate you'll have all day.

Love LOST

This Sunday put on your pink and red because it's Valentine’s Day! I'm not so much disposed to Valentine’s Day as others might be; I tend to group it in with Groundhog Day, Presidents Day, and Arbor Day. They're "meh" holidays for me. I like the color scheme, and I like heart decor but being chronically single, I've never really had a reason to celebrate it. I don't begrudge the holiday on others, it's just not my favorite.

In that spirit, I will be going out on Saturday night and I will wear a pretty dress. I figure every guy I meet at the bar should be single (unless he's a scoundrel) so the possibility of having fun with my girlfriends and partaking in innocent, self-deprecating flirtations should be fun too.

Anyway, I was planning on skipping a Valentine’s Day post all together except when I noticed that some clever human being out there made LOST Valentines Cards. I'm obsessed with LOST and pop-culture references so I'll add this to my list of things I like about Valentine’s Day. It can replace Conversation Hearts since they went ahead and decided to change the recipe and put stupid phrases like "tweet me" on the hearts.

Here is a fun fact.  Valentine's Day cards have been given since the year 1400 and, with the exception of Christmas, American's exchange more cards on Valentine's Day than any other day of the year.

Everyone have a fun and safe Valentine’s Day and ladies; don't break a leg in the heels you'll all likely wear! It's still pretty slick out there!

The Great Snowpocalypse

Happy snow days dear readers.  I apologize for not posting anything in days.  I had been sick and by the time I recovered we were already buried in snow so I've spent most of my time waiting in line at the grocery store.

As cabin fever begins to set in I'll try to think of something clever and wonderful to post concerning all this fluffy white stuff but until then I wish to direct you to GreaterGreater Washington.  This is one of my favorite blogs (I'm a transit geek) and they do a wonderful series called "Then and Now" which utilized old photos (my favorite thing) to explain a bit of DC's history.  I enjoyed todays post about snow ball fights and as Dupont Circle prepares for it's second snowball fight (no guns) it's fun to see that this is something Washingtonians have been enjoying for quite some time.

Please enjoy and if you find yourself at the DC snowball fight tomorrow please bundle up and watch out.  I  was miraculously able to pull my shoulder while walking and it's not fun.
