I love how informal this Gallery became. Also, I love Claire's tights. |
One of the best parts of spending all my free time at the Corcoran is the ability to get up close and personal with the artists that exhibit there. With the NOW at the Corcoran series, the museum has done a fascinating job of tapping into talent and bringing them to a larger audience. Claire Healy and Sean Cordeiro are two of those artists.
Already well known in their native Australia, the duo are making their US debut as part of the NOW series (and early next year in San Francisco, something about an airplane - I'm intrigued.) Inspired on a trip to DC, they culled the idea of Are We There Yet? from visits to the Air & Space Museum where they had freeze-dried ice cream, a visit to Costco and the Beaux Arts style of the Corcoran which reminded them of Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey.
I see some similarities... |
A theme of consumerism runs through most of their work (and math - eeek) and, you know what? I know I'm supposed to be the docent but there is just a whole lot of amazingness going on with this exhibit so take a look at the brochure and just go. Also, there are Lego sculptures.
